Beaches
The small fisherman village of La Lajita has a much longer beach than the town itself. One small part is in sight, and another more significant part is hidden out of view towards the West of the town. The Playa La Lajita is a black sand, stone pebble beach, unlike many other ones on Fuerteventura, making this one more unique. Because the town is not very big and does not have much tourism, the beach here never gets very busy or crowded. Although this area is not very touristy; there are still a few little bars next to the beach to enjoy a drink.
Things to do in La Lajita
While there is not much to do in La Lajita village, you have the Oasis Wildlife Park nearby. This is one of the best attractions on the island. A standard entry ticket already includes 3 animal shows, but you can also upgrade to swim with and touch the animals. A unique experience that you can’t get in many places.
Here is my complete list of things to do in Fuerteventura.
Restaurants, bars and nightlife
La Lajita has very few bars and restaurants. Most of them are pretty budget-friendly and mainly serve local cuisine. When it comes to nightlife, there is none of that here except for having a few drinks on the terrace/
Fuerteventura airport to La Lajita
Since La Lajita is not a frequently visited destination from the airport in Fuerteventura, public transportation is not very good for this destination. Since it is 55 km from the airport, it is best to arrive prepared.
- Public transport to La Lajita is possible, but many buses take many stops (sometimes over 20) and can take a long time to get there. If you want to do so, the price is 6.50 € per person.
- A shuttle bus will get you there but needs to be booked before arriving, costing 13.45 €.
- Reserving a taxi online before arriving has a fixed price of 88.75 €. Taking a taxi at the airport has a starting price of 64 € and will be more expensive when in bad traffic, at the weekend or evening.
This is the company I used and advise for booking a taxi or shuttle online. For more information about public transport, you can have a look here.
Weather in La Lajita & when to go
The weather in La Lajita is good all year round, except for December when Fuerteventura, generallyt gets a bit rainier. Yet, still, December only has about 3 rainy days. If you want to have a peaceful and quiet holiday, then La Lajita is interesting all year round but do know that some months of the year, it can feel very quiet and empty here. If you want it to feel a bit more lively and have the best weather, then the best months are June, July, August and September.
