Beaches
The Playa de Gran Tarajal is very popular with the locals from Fuerteventura, especially during the weekend and evenings. This light brown, beige sandy beach has a lot of restaurants and bars next to it, one of the main reasons it is so popular.
Things to do in Gran Tarajal
There are no tourist attractions or things to do in Gran Tarajal. So if you want to explore Fuerteventura, it is best to rent a car. Here are some things you need to know to ensure your car hire in Fuerteventura goes without problems.
Here is my complete list of things to do in Fuerteventura.
Restaurants, bars and nightlife
This is one of the most popular places on the island for the local Spanish population because of the many restaurants and bars in this area. Especially at the weekends and during holidays the restaurants, bars and nightlife get quite bustling. The nightlife here is all about having a few drinks next to the beach and enjoying the excellent tapas.
Fuerteventura airport to Gran Tarajal
Gran Tarajal is 40 km away from the airport. As few of the main bus lines pass here, it is best to take a taxi or a pre-booked shuttle bus.
- Public transport to Gran Tarajal is possible, but many buses take many stops (sometimes over 20) and can take a long time to get there. If you want to do so, the price is 5.35 € per person.
- A shuttle bus will get you there faster but needs to be booked before arriving, costing 13.45 €.
- Reserving a taxi online before arriving has a fixed price of 82.83 €. Taking a taxi from the airport has a starting price of 49 € and will be more expensive at the weekend or evening.
This is the company I used and advise for booking a taxi or shuttle online. For more information about public transport, you can have a look here.
Weather in Gran Tarajal & when to go
Gran Tarajal has hot summers and enjoyable and comfortable winters compared to some other holiday destinations in Spain, where winters are generally colder and wetter. So, Gran Tarajal is a great place to holiday all year round if you like this type of resort. Also, because Gran Tarajal is inhabited mainly by the local population and not that many tourists, it feels lively and everything stays open all year round. Something you might not have in the smaller or most touristy destination on the island, where some months might feel quite empty.
December in Fuerteventura is a month you might want to avoid if possible because of generally higher prices and it is the more rainy month of the year. Yet, this is only 3 rainy days per month.
Is Gran Tarajal the right holiday destination for you?
If you want to be away from mass tourism and immerse yourself in local Spanish culture and dining, then Gran Tarajal is an excellent place for your next holiday in Fuerteventura.
