Portinatx in Ibiza is great for beach enthusiasts. The beaches here are all within a short stroll from each other. This area has several restaurants along the beach promenade, serving fresh seafood, tapas, and fine dining. For being a small place, there are quite a few things to do here, from snorkelling in crystal-clear waters to horseback riding through untouched nature. The nightlife is more relaxed, with most establishments closing around midnight.
Beaches
Portinatx is, in my opinion, one of the loveliest resorts in Ibiza for a beach holiday as the area is small with few hotels. Most are right next to a beautiful sandy beach with sunbeds and trees for shade. Also, most of the restaurants in this area are located on the first line right next to the beach, so you can enjoy your drinks, dinner or lunch with some great views over the beach and sea.
While the beach here is referred to by most as Portinatx beach or Playa de Portinatx, there are 3 different parts (S’Arenal Gros, S’Arenal Petit and Playa Port) to this that are separated but all within easy walking distance.
This area does have one drawback. While the beaches here are excellent and ideal in the low season, they can feel somewhat crowded and busy in the high season as they are not very big. But this is the case for most holiday destinations in Ibiza.
Where to stay in Portinatx
This holiday destination is not very big, so everything is within walking distance or a quick taxi away. Also, almost all the hotels and accommodations are close to the coastline, so you never have to go far if you love the beach.
Here are some places to stay you can book today and know for sure you made a great choice:

Things to do in Portinatx
- Snorkelling and diving: Located away from much of the mass tourism in Ibiza, the crystal clear waters here are ideal for snorkelling and diving.
- Motorized water sports: Waterski to banana boat, you can do them here.
- Boat trip: You can join many boat trips here along the coastline or rent your own small boat.
- Sunsets: Portinatx is a great place to watch the sunset. The best view is around the Torre de Portinatx, from one of the many sunset cruises or the rocky formations on the right of the bay.
- Nearby beaches: While the beaches here are great, a visit to the Cala d’en Serra can be great for a change of scenery. A short taxi ride or half an hour hike away.
- Horse riding: This part of Ibiza has vast stretches of untouched nature. For this reason, there are also many horseback riding excursions nearby.
- Hiking: Since there is so much nature around here, it’s an excellent place to go hiking. Towards the east of the resort, an extensive hiking trail will take you along the coastline that many people will never see. Bring plenty of water, a towel, and swimwear and know that in July and August, it might be too hot to do this for many.

Restaurants
For not being a big resort, Portinatx has quite a few restaurants. Almost all these are next to the beach promenade, offering great views and a lovely relaxed setting. Most focus on fresh seafood and fish, tapas and fine dining. There are also a few burger and snack places in the back streets that are more budget-friendly. While most also offer child-friendly options, finding a restaurant for eating out with children with picky and fussy eating habits can be more challenging than in some of the other bigger resorts on the island.
Nightlife
Nightlife in Portinatx is relaxed and laid back. Many bars and restaurants stay open till just before or around midnight and play soft lounge or have a DJ playing relaxing music. This area is great for drinks, cocktails and relaxing, but if you like to go clubbing or have late-night outs, this area is not suitable for you. In high season, however, some hotels might organise some themed parties.
Ibiza Airport to Portinatx

- Shuttle bus online (31.63 €/pp): Best for solo travel.

Portinatx: When to go
Portinatx is best visited from half of May to half of October. Since this is a small and not very well-known holiday destination on the islands, many things in the resort might not be open if you come earlier or later. Also, since this is in the North of the islands, this area gets a bit more rainfall than the rest of the island and since May and October can see quite a few rainy days, it is best to avoid this area during those months if you can.
Is Portinatx the best holiday destination for you?
Portinatx is ideal for those seeking a tranquil beach holiday. Its clear waters make it a haven for snorkelling and diving enthusiasts. Nature lovers will appreciate the hiking trails and horseback riding opportunities. If you’re looking for a relaxed nightlife with soft lounge music and a laid-back atmosphere, this is the place for you.
Those who thrive on bustling nightlife and clubbing might find Portinatx too quiet. If you’re travelling with children with very specific dining preferences, the limited child-friendly dining options might pose a challenge. Additionally, the beaches can become quite crowded during the high season, which might not appeal to everyone.
