Other Canary Islands also have interesting adult-only hotels and resorts, but Gran Canaria wins overall!

Puerto de Mogan is the most romantic couples holiday destination in the Canary Islands. Here you will find the picturesque harbour with its authentic colourful Canarian houses and many excellent (seafood) restaurants. This makes for a perfect romantic dining location. The beach here is also magnificent and often mentioned as one of the best on the island. The weekly market in Puerto de Mogan is ideal for those couples who like to browse, explore and shop some of the traditional local products.
Best adults-only hotels in Puerto de Mogan
Hotel LIVVO Puerto de Mogán is not officially an adults-only hotel. However, the vast majority of people booking this hotel are adults. You can easily take a direct dip into the ocean from the relaxing poolside. Also, you have most of the restaurants within a very short distance, but if you wish to dine in the hotel, you will be doing this right next to the ocean in a very relaxing setting.
Sol Mogan Suites is also very popular for an adults-only holiday in the Mogan area. But do know that this one is located further inland. So it is best to hire a car or use the hotel’s bicycles.
Playa de las Americas in Tenerife – Clubbing and nightlife
Playa de Las Americas is ideal for younger couples and singles looking for an adults-only holiday in the Canary Islands with lots of clubbing and late nights. This is because of Las Veronicas in Playa de las Americas, the best-known and most extensive clubbing area in Tenerife. But also for those who don’t want to go clubbing every night, this area has lots to offer.
In recent years a lot of money has been invested in this area to transform it from just a late-night party and clubbing place into an upscale and classy resort. Now you also find a large selection of restaurants and branded shops here, just a short walk away from the Las Veronicas clubbing area.
Best adults-only hotels in Playa de las Americas
Tigotan Lovers & Friends in Playa de Las Americas is an excellent adults-only hotel to stay in and in an ideal location. Less than 200 meters from the nightlife in Las Veronicas, most of the great restaurants and shopping centres. The hotel itself is also very modern and ideal for couples. The rooftop pools offer an exceptional view of the area.
While the Tigotan is a great hotel, it is not ideal for beach lovers. If you want a great hotel for couples close to the beach in Playa de las Americas, then Sir Anthony is a great option. This is not officially an adults-only hotel but “adults-oriented”.
Corralejo in Fuerteventura – A bit of everything
This is one of the more surprising holiday destinations I have visited in the Canary Islands. Corralejo offers a bit of everything, including great shopping, beaches, many excellent restaurants and an overall authentically Spanish feeling vibe. In the evening, you can choose just to have a few drinks and enjoy one of the live performances and bands or go clubbing. The clubbing scene here is not huge compared to some other of the Spanish Islands’ main party resorts, but the biggest in Fuerteventura.
Best adults-only hotels in Corralejo
The Secrets Bahia Real Resort & Spa is Corralejo’s largest and most luxurious adults-only hotel. Of course, this is also reflected in the price. But if you can afford it, you get a great hotel, in an excellent peaceful location directly next to a large beach. Something that few other hotels in Corralejo can offer.
During my travels around the Canary Islands, I stayed in many hotels, but one of the more surprising adults-only hotels I stayed in was the H10 Ocean Dreams. The whole hotel felt immaculate, clean and modern. On top of that, the a la carte food and service were a truly surprising experience. Since this hotel is not very big, the service and staff feel very personal and welcoming.
If you like small boutique hotels with just a few rooms, then both Boutique la Marquesina and Avanti Lifestyle are good choices. Both have excellent locations near the beach and are close to many picturesque restaurants.
Las Palmas in Gran Canaria – Couples city trip
Las Palmas is ideal for couples looking for an adults-only holiday combining a city trip with a great beach. There are many shopping streets here, and since this is in the Canary Islands, prices are pretty affordable.
When you are tired of shopping, Las Palmas has one of the most beautiful beaches in Gran Canaria. Of course, you would not expect an exquisite beach like this in a busy capital, but the beach is located away from the busy and louder part of the city.
In the evening you will find many great restaurants and places to have drinks both in the city centre and next to the beach. Since this is not a touristy destination, no PR staff are trying to pull you into restaurants or bother you while you look around. A stark contrast from many of the more tourist destinations on the island.
Best adults-only hotels in Las Palmas
Cristina by Tigotan Las Palmas is not only a superb adults-only hotel, with some fantastic views from the rooftop pool, but it also has a perfect location for a visit to Las Palmas. In front of the hotel, you have the best beach in Las Palmas, behind the Poema Del Mar Aquarium and a large shopping centre.
Hotel Boutique Bedandchic is ideal for those who want to emerge more in the city vibe in a more compact and personal feeling mini-hotel.
Meloneras in Gran Canaria – Upscale and classy
For those who want a classy and upscale adults-only couples holiday in the Canary Islands, Meloneras is the best place to visit. This area is one of the newest areas in Gran Canaria, full of new, modern and upscale hotels. This is a big contrast with the over 50 years old resorts of Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas, a kilometre away. Most of the hotels in Meloneras are huge and offer everything you could want during your holiday in the hotel. But there is also a beach and the dunes of Maspalomas nearby for those who enjoy the beach.
Best adults-only hotels in Meloneras
The hotel Faro is the best adults-only hotel in this area. It recently got a complete makeover and now has an even more modern and luxurious vibe. With many pools, swimming options and Balinese beds, this hotel is excellent for couples who enjoy relaxing by the pool most of the time.
There are many other great hotels in this area for a luxurious like the Lopesan Costa Meloneras and the Lopesan Villa del Conde, but these are not adults-only hotels even tho the vast majority of guests in these hotels are adults.
Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife – Older couples
Especially during the winter, Puerto de la Cruz is very popular with older couples and singles. During these months, the resort has a very relaxed feel during the daytime, but in the evening comes alive with lots of live music and places to dance to the oldies and classics. It is worth mentioning that most of the nightlife takes place in front of the resort near the sea, so check your hotel location before booking as much of this holiday destination is located up against the mountain and far away.
During most of the winter months, many of the holiday destinations in Tenerife can feel empty and somewhat abandoned. Because there are many local Spanish people in Puerto de la Cruz, this is not the case here. But also, the resort does generally not feel loud, busy or touristy during the winter months.
To make your airport transfer as easy as possible, it is best to book a flight to the North Tenerife airport, instead of the South Tenerife Airport.
Best adults-only hotels in Puerto de la Cruz
The best adults-only hotel here is the Hotel Atlantic Mirage Suites & Spa, with fantastic ocean views. However, this hotel is located a bit up the hill, which means that the nightlife, restaurants and beach are a bit of a walk or taxi ride away. So if you don’t mind this, I can advise this hotel.
If you are going in winter and want to be closer to everything, then know that there are no excellent adults-only hotels nearby, but most of them will have an adults-only feel as there are very few children here in winter. A great option is the Hotel Vallemar.
Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote – Evening and nightlife
Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote is a great holiday destination for those couples or singles who want a lot of nightlife but don’t necessarily want a busy clubbing scene. In the evening, you will find lots of live performances, quizzes and an open-air cinema. But also during the daytime, this holiday destination is attractive for an adults-only holiday with large shopping centres and a lovely beach. Moreover, since Puerto del Carmen is just a few minutes drive from the airport, it is also perfect for a short holiday. Yet, even tho located close to the airport, the planes rarely fly over.
Best adults-only hotels in Puerto del Carmen
Lani’s Suites de Luxe is one of the most luxurious adults-only hotels in Lanzarote, and definitely in Puerto del Carmen. However, it is not within everyone’s budget but a great choice if you can afford it. The hotel has a luxurious and modern feel with its private little beach and mini restaurant overlooking the ocean.
La Isla y el Mar Boutique is another excellent adults-only hotel in this area and is usually a bit cheaper.
If you are looking for a budget deal, you might want to consider Hotel Las Costas. This is not marketed as an adults-only hotel, but when travelling outside of the school holidays, this hotel has mostly adult guests and is in an excellent location for the beach, nightlife, restaurants and shopping.
Are La Gomera, La Palma, El Hierro and La Graciosa good islands for an adults-only holiday?
These islands can also be interesting places for an adults-only holiday in the Canary Islands but they are not for everyone as they are harder to get to. There are no direct flights from Europe so if you are going by plane, most of the time you have to take an additional flight from Tenerife or use the ferry. Also on these islands there is fewer things to see and do. However if you like to go hiking or want to escape the tourism, then these islands could be good for you. La Gomera, from the 3, is the easiest to reach and has quite a few hotels.
When to visit the Canary Islands for the best adults-only holiday
The Canary Islands is one of the only places in Spain that has sunny and warm weather all year round. Even tho in winter it it gets a bit colder in the Canary Islands, it is still pleasant beach and pool weather for most people. The mainland and other Spanish Islands are much colder and rainier in winter. If you are visiting in winter however it is best to stay away from the North destinations like Puerto de la Cruz and Corralejo as these in winter are a bit more rainy and cloudy.
Also when it comes to pricing it is interesting to know that during school holidays normally the prices are much higher. So if you are going on an adults-only holiday in The Canary Islands, it is best to avoid these periodes. Not only for finding a great budget deal but also to avoid crowds and queues.
