After visiting over 500 hotels on the Spanish Islands and having lived, travelled and worked on these islands for over 20 years, if I could only pick one hotel for each island… this would be my selection. Do know that consider much more than just the hotel’s quality, but also the location and what it has to offer for adults.

What about the smaller islands?
While Formentera, La Gomera, El Hierro, Las Palmas and other smaller Spanish islands can also be suitable for an adults-only holiday, they are not ideal for everyone. Mainly because they are harder to get to than the others because of the lack of an airport or less frequent and more expensive flights. In most cases, you will first have to fly to a nearby bigger island, and then take a ferry across. While for some, this adds a sense of adventure to their holiday, many choose not to add this extra complexity. But also because they generally have fewer things to see and do on the islands.

While in the daytime, the beach clubs are the main focus here, in the evening, big clubs like Ushuaia Ibiza and Hi Ibiza become the top destination for most people on holiday here. Also, since Eivissa (Ibiza town) and many unique and different beaches are nearby, there is something for everyone here, from clubbing to culture, shopping till unique and authentic restaurants to try out.

Santa Eulalia is an ideal holiday for older couples. This city is relaxed and not too touristy, with a pretty authentic Spanish vibe. Also, for couples who like to be active and explore Santa Eulalia is great as the tourist boats can take you to many nearby beaches, and since this is a pretty big city, many buses can take you all over the island. Nightlife is much more relaxed than other places in Ibiza, focussed more on having a nice relaxed drink and maybe watching a show or listening to musicians.

San Antonio is a smaller and more approachable version of Playa d’en Bossa. This area is more about the party streets and outside party areas like the Sunset Strip and the West End, not so much about giant nightlife clubs. For the daytime, adults will enjoy the water taxis here that can quickly get you to one of the many nearby beaches. Some natural and relaxing, others more party focussed. San Antonio is famous for its sunset, so it does not matter if you are dining or pre-partying in the evening; you will always have a fantastic view to enjoy.

Eivissa – City holiday with an active nightlife
Eivissa, also known as Ibiza town, is ideal for couples and singles holidays. It is very popular with a younger party crowd during the summer for its nightlife and clubbing. Pacha’s is this town’s most iconic and well-known club, but many more are nearby. Also, Lio’s is located in the centre of the harbour for those looking for an upscale and unique experience with clubbing, shows and dining.
During the colder winter months, an older generation loves to come here for the more relaxed atmosphere, culture and excellent authentic Spanish dining. Dalt Vila, the old town, is not only great for culture lovers but also impressive to everyone because of its size. If you like to explore outside the city, the central bus station is here, so there are plenty of connections to the other resorts on the island. Also, the City Boats leave from here and can take you to many nearby beaches, solving the fact that Eivissa does not have a central beach. Figueretes and Talamanca, on the outskirts of town, can also be reached with a bit of walking or a quick taxi ride.

During the summer, this is a busy and active holiday spot, with many younger people staying here to party in nearby El Arenal. You have Palma city nearby to explore, an excellent long sandy beach and plenty of bars and restaurants. The nearby Can Pastilla has some fantastic and authentic Spanish seafood restaurants for those who don’t mind a little walk. Since Playa de Palma is very close to the airport, it is also ideal for those who don’t want to travel a lot or want to visit for a few days.

Las Palmas offers adults the best beach holiday and a city trip combined. The beach here is surprisingly beautiful for being located in an otherwise busy city. Next to it, you will find a large promenade with many restaurants and beach bars to enjoy. There are also several shopping centres and plenty of shopping streets for those who like shopping. Since this resort is not too touristy, prices are also more “Spanish” here and more budget-friendly than many other holiday destinations on the island.

Meloneras – Upscale and classy
Meloneras is one of the more modern, upscale and classy resorts in the Canary Islands, in contrast with the older resorts of Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas next to it. There are plenty of modern, new, enormous and upscale hotels here. While most spend most of the day here in the hotel because they are so big and offer all kinds of amenities and services, some bars and restaurants are nearby. For those who love the beach, there is one on both ends of the resort, connected by a promenade for couples to enjoy in the evenings.

For those who like to dine out, plenty of excellent fresh seafood restaurants are here. The beach here is also often mentioned as one of the best ones on the island. The Puerto de Mogan weekly market offers a great place to browse and explore as a couple.
Fuerteventura
Corralejo – A bit of everything
Corralejo is the best resort for adults in Fuerteventura, offering a bit of everything: multiple beaches, many excellent restaurants, great shopping and a pretty authentic Spanish-feeling vibe. In the evening you can choose just to have a few drinks, enjoy one of the live shows and bands or go clubbing till the early hours. The clubbing scene is not huge here compared to other Spanish Islands, but the biggest in Fuerteventura. The marina area is especially romantic for couples to explore with cosy restaurants and shops.

Since it is close to the airport, it is an excellent place for a quick getaway without hours of travelling after arriving.

All the capitals on the bigger islands are also excellent destinations for an adults-only city trip. Most are located close to the airport, have culture and many have excellent restaurants. Although these are the capital, they are generally cheaper than other more touristy holiday destinations on the Spanish Island. But since most people looking for a holiday in the Spanish Islands want a beach nearby, I did not include all of them in the above list.
