Most visited and popular beaches
So what if you want a unique beach during your holiday in Mallorca? You will be advised usually an excursion to Es Trenc, Formentor or Sa Calobra and these beaches are nice but sadly in high season overrun with tourists. So most months, I would advise you these beaches if you want to visit them on an organized excursion but would avoid them in June, July
Family friendly beaches
There are plenty of options if you are looking for family-friendly beaches in Mallorca with all facilities and places to eat and drink nearby and soft sheltered waves. The best in this case would be the beaches in Cala Millor, Palma Nova, Santa Ponsa, Sa Coma, Can Picafort and Peguera. All of these have great beaches for families.
Young party crowd beaches
For those looking for a more active beach with a younger crowd, the beaches of Magaluf and El Arenal are your best choice. But also the Cala Agulla and Son Moll beach in Cala Ratjada might be good for you. However, do know that these are primarily active in June, July and August, and other months of the year take on a more family-friendly and relaxed vibe.
Less crowded beaches
Cala Vinyes is the first beach I would like to mention for a less crowded beach option. There are still a few hotels here, but it is a cute little beach and especially popular with people from Magaluf and Palma Nova looking for a nice small beach nearby. However, it does not often get crowded here. A bit further away you will find several nice beaches as well near Portals Vells. These include Cala Mago and Caleta de Portals Vells.
The Playa Cala Blanca is within walking distance from Santa Ponsa, but most people don’t know it is there, so they will never find it. This beach is unique as it has a little beach club and diving board going right into the sea. There are several little “beach balconies” here spread out over the coastline, and it’s also good to do some snorkelling here.
Playa de Muro has often been voted one of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca. However, remember that the further you go away from Alcudia and more in the direction of Can Picafort… the better the beach in Playa de Muro gets.
The Playa Romantica is a lovely white sandy beach, especially great is the Coco beach bar here who has special barbeques once a week in the evening. I would advise going here for a unique experience. It’s nothing fancy but also not expensive. Most of the time, they have live music as well at the same time. Keep in mind that it’s best to reserve a spot in advance.
Secluded beaches
The Cala Fornells beach is just outside Paguera and about 30 minutes walking. However, very few people staying in Paguera find this beach as they choose the main beaches and don’t explore further. If you want to walk a bit further, the beach at Calo d’en Monjo is isolated and secluded, a great escape from the mass tourism in this area.
You will also find some attractive small beaches on the West coast, but none of them is worth the drive over there as many of them are very hard to reach. However, if you are visiting other things or towns in the West or North- West, you might want to head to Cala de Sa Costa Brava or Punta de Sa Forada if you want an adventure and don’t mind a pretty big hike. This is one of the most secluded places to swim in Mallorca, and there is also a great unique restaurant serving good and affordable food.
In the
In the North, near Alcudia, you will find the S’illot beach. This is a stone pebble beach with a lovely island to explore and an ideal place to snorkel around. There are also a few places you can jump of and do some minor cliff diving, just be careful and go where the locals go.
When to go to the beach in Mallorca
Each Saturday, many people leave the island each week as most of the flights go then. This means that Fridays and Saturdays are good days to go to the beach.
