Costa Adeje

Beaches

Costa Adeje has many different beaches.  Playa de la Pinta beach is the least nice.  It’s pretty tiny and very often crowded, but it is excellent for families with small children as it is close to many hotels and has everything close by you might need for a beach holiday with the kids as well as small soft waves sheltered from the ocean. There is even an inflatable bouncy castle in the water for the kids to play on.

Playa de Torviscas and Playa Fanabe are much nicer; they are also the bigger beaches in this area with some more upscale sun loungers, Balinese beds and beach clubs. In addition, you will find many snack places next to the beach, and fun things for the kids like mini-golf and even a daycare and “play-care” centre.

My favourite beach in this area is the Playa del Duque, a lovely little and more upscale feeling beach with some of the softest and white sand, and also closest to some of the more expensive hotels in this area.

The newer developed beach in this area is the Playa El Beril, with soft black sands and a relaxed atmosphere.

Where to stay in Costa Adeje

Costa Adeje is the biggest tourist area on the island. Choosing the right place is vital for a great holiday. The more lively areas you will find near the Fanabe, La Pinta and Torviscas beaches with many bars, restaurants and late night activities like live performances, karaoke and shows. The newest and largest more all-inclusive focussed hotels are near the Playa del Duque and Playa el Beril. However, in the evening this area has almost nothing to offer but peace and quiet.

In any case, make sure your hotels location is in front of the highway, as otherwise you will be very far away from everything and it is a lot of uphill walking to get back there.

Things to do in Costa Adeje

  • Waterparks: Both Siam Water Park, my personal favorite and the Aqualand Costa Adeje are located here.
  • Shopping: There are plenty of shopping centers in all price categories located all over the area.
  • Beaches: Costa Adeje has the largest variety and amount of beach to explore in Tenerife, so definelty do so.
  • Boat trips: From the Puerto Colon harbor most of the boat trips leave. You can go dophin or whale watching or just explore and relax.
  • Market: The local market takes place every Thursday and Sunday next to GF Fanabe hotel.
  • Barranco del Infierno: A challenging hike with waterfalls that is ideal for those who like to be active on holiday. You need to book in advance as only 20 people every half hour to protect it’s nature and authenticity. A bus will come pick you up at your hotel.
  • La Caleta: Visit nearby La Caleta for an escape from the crowds to a unique small authentic Tenerife coastal village with great seaside restaurants.
  • Mini golf: For fun with the entire family, there are several mini-golf courses in the area.
  • Golf: If you like to play golf there is 18 hole golf course in neighboring Playa de Las Americas.
  • Water bouncy castle: On the Playa La Pinta beach there is a fun water bouncy castle.
  • Watersports: From many of the beaches but especially the Puerto Colon harbor you can do many different types of watersports like jet skiing and parasailing.
  • Karting: For some action packed fun in the sun the Karting Las Americas just outside of the resort is ideal.

Restaurants

Restaurants you will find all over the area of Costa Adeje, and there is an extensive choice. Ranging for all kinds of fast-food restaurants, to oriental cuisine, to fusion, to steak houses and excellent value for money all you can eat buffets. For some of the bigger restaurants overlooking Playa de Fanabe, in the evening, it is best to make a reservation before hand. If you are looking for budget friendly options, you best place to start is near the San Eugenio or Aquamarina shopping centers. For a more luxurious and pricey restaurant experience, there are some very exclusive restaurants near the Playa del Duque.

With Playa de las Americas just next door and within walking distance, you have an even wider selection of restaurants.

Nightlife

The nightlife in the Costa Adeje varies a lot, but is the most lively near the La Pinta beach and in the streets behind it. This is a lively area with many comedians, shows, live perfomances, music and karaoke bars. The further North you go from there, the quieter and more relaxed it becomes. From the Playa del Duque on there is almost nothing open at night.

If you want to go clubbing or partying in Costa Adeje, you will find some bars open till late, but not many clubs.  For real clubbing and party nightlife, take a walk or taxi to Playa de las Americas, especially the Veronicas area, the most active clubbing and nightlife in Tenerife.

Tenerife airport to Costa Adeje

Costa Adeje is only a 18 kilometer drive away from the Tenerife South Airport (TFS). The Tenerife North Airport (TFN) is 81 kilometers away. So it is best to fly to the Tenerife South Airport:

  • Public transport (3.70 €/pp): Cheap, but know that the bus might stop far away from your hotel. Also if your hotel is further then the central bus station in Costa Adeje, near Siam Park, you might need to transfer there onto another bus. This is the case for most of the hotels.
  • Shuttle bus online (5.16 €/pp): This is a much better option as the price is about the same as the public transport but it is just much easier and you are dropped of at your hotel reception.
  • Taxi or minibus online (31.06 €): Cheap and an ideal option for those who are traveling with 4 or more.
  • Taxi at the airport (25.00 €): Could be a good option as well but not during evenings or weekends, as the price will be much higher then. In that case you might as well book online before also to have shorter wait times and have child safety seat.

When to go

Costa Adeje is ideal to visit any month of the year as the weather is also great here because of the microclimate. While the winter months are a bit more cold and a bit more wet, the weather still remains excellent for those escaping the freezing winters on mainland Europe to sunny and pleasantly warm beaches.

November is the best month to visit Costa Adeje on a budget. June and September are in many ways the best month to visit with great weather and fair prices.
