Costa del Silencio

Beaches

Costa del Silencio has a unique place to swim on Tenerife, the Playa de Montana Amarilla.  The water is very clear because it’s primarily pebbles and rocks, so no sand to get in the way.  What makes it extremely good for snorkelling. If you want to spend some time here, there is also a cute little beach bar, and you might even want to walk up the Amarilla mountain to get a great view, if you would get a bit restless or enjoy a bit of adventure. On the rocky platforms, you also have a great places to relax without getting sand everywhere.

On the way to Las Galletas from here, you also will find a small sandy beach a bit hidden away, the Playa la Ballena. While the path leading here is less then picturesque, the beach it self is pretty nice.

Further on, you also have the large Playa las Galletas, with dark sands and also a pretty relaxed setting except for the road next to it, but you will not notice it much. From here you can also do many watersports as well as from the nearby harbour area.

Where to stay in Costa del Silencio

The Costa del Silencio has very few hotels; it is primarily holiday rental apartments and house where people stay during their holidays in this area.  Most of it is budget accommodation, so this could be a great place to stay if you are looking for deals.  Have a look at the Costa del Silencio page on booking.com.

Things to do in Costa del Silencio

  • Watersports: From the nearby marina of Las Galletas you can do plenty of waterspouts like diving and waterskiing.
  • Finca Las Margaritas Banana Experience: A local banana farm you can visit with guided or self-guided tours and tasters.
  • Adventurers: Hike along the coastline to Golf del Sur or Palm-mar.
  • Nightlife: While there is not the typical party nightlife here, in nearby Las Galletas in the evenings the locals make the town parks, squares and promenade come alive with friendly neigbour vibes.
  • Hire a car: By hiring a car you can easily visit many excellent nearby attractions like Monkey Park, Camel Park, Jungle Park and Siam Water Park.

Restaurants

There are quite a few restaurants and places to eat in the Costa del Silencio, many of these cater to an international audience. Most of these are located in the “Ten-Bel” shopping center and near “The Bathers” fountain, the fountain with the swimming people statues.

However, when you want some of the more traditional Spanish cuisines, have a look next to the sea in the Las Galletas area, a small walk away. In addition, the Costa del Silencio and Las Galletas area restaurants have some very fair prices compared to some of the more touristy destinations in Tenerife.

Buying a takeaway pizza or ice cream in Heladeria Pizza Valentino and eating it on the nearby beach at sunset, is a must for me, each time I visit.

Nightlife

Costa del Silencio is a relaxed place; you will not find any clubs or busy nightlife here; it’s mostly about having a few drinks and enjoying the warm summer evenings. Yet, still, some places choose to stay open till the nighttime.

Tenerife airport to Costa del Silencio

Costa del Silencio is only a 12 kilometer drive away from the Tenerife South Airport (TFS). The Tenerife North Airport (TFN) is 78 kilometers away. So it is best to fly to the Tenerife South Airport:

  • Public transport (2.45 €/pp): A good and cheap option for solo travelers and couples but not ideal as in most cases you will have to transfer bus at least ones. At some times there is direct bus without transfers, but it does not run often.
  • Shuttle bus online (5.16 €/pp): A better option for just a few euros more, no need to transfer and dropped off at your hotel not a random bus stop.
  • Taxi or minibus online (31.06 €): Best option for those traveling with 4 or more or those who need child safety seats.
  • Taxi at the airport (19.00 €/pp): Also a good option, but the price is also never this low, especially during weekends and evenings the price is much higher. In most cases better to book online as pricing is about the same and service generally better. Maximum 4 people in these taxi’s.

When to go

Costa del Silencio has just like most of Tenerife great weather all year round comparable to the most popular beaches in the South of Tenerife. However, it is often a bit more windy here. What can make it ideal in summer but can also feel a bit colder in winter. Also know that during November and May this area can feel a bit empty and some bars and restaurants might close for holidays or renovations, but most still stay open.

If you like peace and quiet, this place offers excellent budget friendly deals in May. If you like a bit more people around, June and September have excellent value for money.
