Jandia

Beaches

Jandia has 2 beaches that are part of the large Playa de Jandia. Both of these beaches have white sandy beaches.

Playa del Matorral

Playa del Matorral is the largest beach here, most exposed to the element and separated from the hotels by vast dunes. It is, however, easy to get to from many of the hotels because of the tunnels under the main road. However, it is a bit of a walk because you first must cross the dunes through the walking paths provided. On the beach, you will find a few beach bars and sunbeds but nothing else.

Playa las Gaviotas

Playa las Gaviotas is a smaller beach sheltered more from the elements so it can be better on windy days. If you are staying in one of the Iberostar hotels, it is easy to get to as this beach is in front of it, and the hotels have direct access to it. Here there is just 1 small beach bar, some sunbeds and the possibility to learn or practice all kinds of surfing.

Best hotels in Jandia

Jandia has many huge club hotels. Most of these are located behind the dunes and road, a 500-meter walk away from the beach. In many locations, there are tunnels under the main road to make getting to the beach more easily. If you want to be direct to the beach and still have a great hotel, then the Iberostar hotels are your best choice in Jandia.

Of all the hotels I have visited in this area, these I can advise:

Things to do in Jandia

This side of the island is mainly about the beach and relaxation. However, a few things to do nearby are very interesting. A visit to the Sotvanento beach, a boat trip to see the dolphins from the nearby Morro Jable harbour and a visit to Cofete beach by a jeep are all worth doing. If you want to see more of the island, there are also many organised excursions from here to the Ajuy caves, cheese museums, Betancuria and much more.

Here is my complete list of things to do in Fuerteventura.

Restaurants, bars and nightlife

Jandia does not have many bars or restaurants. Instead, there is a small open-air shopping centre with places to eat and have some drinks and a beach bar. If you want more choice of restaurants, pubs and bars, however, Morro Jable is not far away. Most people can easily walk there or take a taxi.

Nightlife in Jandia mostly takes place within the hotels as many offer great entertainment and are all-inclusive.

Fuerteventura airport to Jandia

Jandia is 78 km away or a 1-hour drive from Fuerteventura airport, making it one of the holiday destinations located furthest away from the airport. Because of this, it is best to arrive at the airport well prepared and preferably with pre-booked transportation.

  • You can reach Jandia by public transport, but many buses take many stops (sometimes over 40) and take a long time to get there. If you want to do so, the price is 8.50 € per person.
  • A shuttle bus will get you there faster but needs to be booked before arriving, costing 14.63 €. It also has a lot of other benefits, like a guaranteed connection if your flight gets delayed.
  • Reserving a taxi online before arriving has a fixed price of 106.50 €. Taking a taxi at the airport has a start price of 93 € and will be more expensive when in bad traffic, at the weekend or evening.

This is the company I used and advise for booking a taxi or shuttle online. For more information about public transport, you can have a look here.

Weather in Jandia & when to go

Jandia is one of the better places in Fuerteventura to visit all year round. This is because it is located in the South of the island that gets less rain compared to the North. And since the weather is warm all year round in Fuerteventura, all months are good too. In December, however, there might be a bit more rain than in other months, but it is minimal, with less than 3 rainy days per month.

Is Jandia the best holiday destination for you?

Jandia is most famous for its large-scale all-inclusive hotels and the beach. If you enjoy spending most of the time in the hotel or on the beach and don’t need much nightlife or restaurants nearby because of the all-inclusive, Jandia is an excellent option for your holiday in Fuerteventura. However, remember that Jandia is a minimum of 1 hour from the airport by taxi and much longer by bus or airport shuttle. So it might not be the best option if you quickly get car sick or travel with small children and babies.
