Menorca: Weather & when to go

When to go where in Menorca

When to go where in Menorca: green = good, orange = ok , red = only for hiking and sports

When should you visit Menorca? It depends from person to person! Are you looking for budget deals, going for the hottest weather, looking to relax or have an active summer holiday? Above I provide a quick guide to the best time to visit Menorca and where to go depending on the month.

In January, February, March, November and December, the weather in Menorca is too cold for a beach or pool holiday. But these months are still popular with hikers who like to explore the mostly empty coastlines in these months.

June, July, August and September are hot and dry summer months and offer the best beach and pool holiday weather. However, September can already see some more rain, so go in June, July, and August if you have the option.

May and October are also good but if you want to avoid unexpected weather, try to avoid the beginning of May and the end of October. If you are visiting Menorca in May or October, I would advise you to stick to the bigger resort such as Santa Tomas, Cala Galdana, Cala en Bosc, Cala Blanca and Cala ‘n Blanes as others might feel relatively empty.

For really cheap holiday deals, the best time is the end of April, especially outside the Easter holidays. But the weather is colder and more unpredictable.

January, February, March, November and December are the cheapest month in Menorca but for many not an interesting time to go as it is not beach weather. June, July and August are the more expensive months. April and October are moderately priced but the weather can still be pretty cold and rainy. Making May and September the best to visit Menorca on a budget.

School holidays are also more expensive.

When is the right time for your to go to Menorca?

Hottest summer months

The hottest summer months with the best weather for sunbathing in Menorca are, without a doubt, June, July and August.

The temperature in these months is an average high of 28°C (82°F) and an average low of 20°C (68°F). With only 1 day of rain a month and the seawater being a very pleasant 24°C (75°F), these months are ideal for those who like to swim and sunbathe.

July and August are also the more expensive months to visit Menorca because of the high demand. So if you can come in June instead, the cheaper of these 3 months, this might be your best choice.

Best time to visit for budget deals and active holidays

If you want to travel on a budget or visit Menorca for an active water sports holiday, then early May, the last half of September and early October is your best choice.

The weather in these months is sunny and warm but still somewhat less hot than in the summer season. Expect the average high to be 24°C (75°F) and the average lows to be 14°C (57°F). There will be about 8 days of rain per week, leaving most days sunny and dry. The water temperature of the sea will be 21°C (70°F).

If you book your holiday outside of the European school holidays that can (depending on the year) fall in these months, you can get very good deals. My last visit here was in early May, and I found an all-inclusive deal in a 4-star hotel for 2 people for about 35 euro per day in Cala en Blanes around this time. If you are travelling around these times, try sticking to the bigger resorts as many of the smaller ones might feel pretty empty. You can find my guide to the best resorts in Menorca right here. For the best weather of these 3 months, September is the best. Also, during this month, the water temperature is nicest, just after the hot summer warmed it up. Menorca is very popular with those coming here to kayak and mountain bike in these months also.

Best time for hiking holidays in Menorca

April, late October and early November are popular options for those coming here to hike around the coastal trails on the island.

The average high in these months is 20°C (68°F), and the average low is 13°C (55°F). So expect to have about 9 rainy days a month, and the sea temperature is pretty chilly. Especially April has frigid seawater of 15°C (59°F).

It is very cheap and easy to find accommodation, but the island has very few tourists around this time. Do know that in these times many restaurants, bars and even some hotels might not be open.

Times to avoid for most people

Unless you are coming here for a cultural city holiday in Mahon or Ciutadella, you might want to avoid late November to early April as the weather is much colder, especially in the evening. Something that is even further amplified by the amount of very windy days you can have in these months since Menorca is an island that is not sheltered by many mountains.
