Morro Jable

Beaches

Playa Morro Jable

Morro Jable has some of the best beaches on the island of Fuerteventura. The Playa Morro Jable is right in front of most of the hotels, bars and restaurants in this area. This is ideal if you like to have all of these services nearby. From here, you can also participate in watersports like surfing, sailing, windsurfing and many more.

Playa del Matorral

The Playa del Matorral beach is located east of Morro Jable’s town, a short walk away, separated by dunes from the hotels. This is a more wild beach, more exposed to the elements and nature but with extensive white sandy beaches as far as the eye can see, often much less busy and crowded than the Playa Morro Jable, which is smaller. There are no bars, shops or restaurants nearby except for two beach bars.

Best hotels in Morro Jable

Being one of the most prominent holiday destinations on the island, Morro Jable has a large selection of hotels and accommodations. The smaller ones with direct beach access, you will find them close to the Morro Jable town. The bigger club hotels can be found a bit further away from the town on the hill next to the dunes. These do offer much more in the hotel, but the beach is a bit of a walk away.

Of all the hotels I have visited in this area, these I can advise:

  • XQ El Palacete: A tiny and compact boutique hotel close to many of the best restaurants in Morro Jable town and right next to the beach.
  • Riu Palace Jandia: 5-star luxury set on the hill overlooking the beach and sea.

Things to do in Morro Jable

This side of the island is not known for active holidays and things to do in Fuerteventura. Most people come here to enjoy the beach. However, there are some things that you can do here that are much easier from here than in any other place on the island. A day trip to the Cofete beach by jeep, a boat trip from the local harbour around the coastline to see the dolphins or a visit to nearby Sotavento beach are just a few of these.

Here is my complete list of things to do in Fuerteventura.

Restaurants, bars and nightlife

Morro Jable has one of the largest selections of restaurants, bars and pubs in Fuerteventura. Most of these are very family-friendly and offer a wide price range. While you can find many budget options next to the main road and in the shopping centre, near the Morro Jable town and the beach you find the more pricey ones.

For nightlife, plenty of places are open till late and many offer live shows and family-friendly entertainment. However, most of it stays pretty quiet and relaxed as there is not a clubbing scene here.

Fuerteventura airport to Morro Jable

Morro Jable is the holiday destination in Fuerteventura located furthest from the airport with 82 km or over 1 hour driving. For this reason, it is best to arrive prepared at the airport and preferrable already with transportation prebooked.

  • You can reach Morro Jable by public transport, but many buses take many stops (sometimes over 40) and take a long time to get there. If you want to do so, the price is 9.30 € per person.
  • A shuttle bus will get you there faster but needs to be booked before arriving, costing 14.63 €. It a o has a lot of other benefits.
  • Reserving a taxi online before arriving has a fixed price of 118.33 €. Taking a taxi at the airport has a starting price of 103 € and will be more expensive when in bad traffic, at the weekend or evening.

This is the company I used and advise for booking a taxi or shuttle online. For more information about public transport, you can have a look here.

Weather in Morro Jable & when to go

Morro Jable is one of the best places in Fuerteventura to visit all year round. Not only because of Fuerteventura’s warm weather but also because of its location in the South of the island, which receives less rain compared to the North. Morro Jable is also one of the bigger holiday destinations in Fuerteventura, so has plenty of restaurants, bars and hotels open all year round. While some other smaller destinations on the island might feel a bit empty and abandoned during the quieter months, with many bars and restaurants taking breaks during these times.

Is Morro Jable the best holiday destination for you?

Morro Jable is best for those looking for a beach holiday. Especially if you stay close to Morro Jable town, the beautiful white sandy beaches are just outside the hotel and are very peaceful and quiet. Because the beaches are so big here, they rarely get crowded. However, one thing to keep in mind is that this resort is far from the airport. A taxi will take about an hour, but a shuttle or bus takes much longer. If this is no problem for you and you love a great beach holiday, then Morro Jable is the best holiday destination for you in Fuerteventura.
