Playa Blanca

Beaches

Beach in the Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca has mostly artificial beaches, with Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo being the biggest and most popular in the resort.  These have white sandy beaches and are ideal for family holidays with plenty of restaurants and snack places nearby. Also, both of these have piers going into the water to break up the ocean waves to make swimming safe.

Nightlife

Papagayo nightlife club in Playa Blanca

Since the Playa Blanca is huge, much of the nightlife is spread out.  You can find a lot of chill and relaxed cocktail places but also clubs and late-night bars.  The Papagayo shopping centre near Dorada beach has most of the parties and late-night clubs. It all starts pretty late here, so don’t show up here too early.  Also, many places in the resort have live performers and quizzes, depending on the time of year.

Restaurants & bars

Playa Blanca has many restaurants, but many of them are not an option if you don’t have a car since the area is so large. Instead, most people stay within the area their hotel is located. So all restaurants are broken up into compact little groups, but most offer a nice variety.  In the harbour area, you will find some of the more prominent, newer restaurants, but you can find excellent options for the entire family all over. If you want to go to the harbour to eat, a taxi or the bus can get you there.

Shopping & markets

Most of the shops in the Playa Blanca you will find near the harbour area. There are many clothes stores here from well-known brands but also a large indoor shopping centre. Markets are held often in the harbour area as well.

How to get to the Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca is the furthest away from the airport in Lanzarote (ACE), so it is good to arrive prepared. By car, it will take about half an hour.

  • Public transport: 3.3 euro, most likely need to take a second bus in Playa Blanca or taxi to get to your hotel since the area is so big and there are few bus stops.
  • Shuttle bus: 9 euro but dropped off at your hotel
  • Taxi: 41 euro in daytime and 46 in nighttime or weekends

Things to do in and near the Playa Blanca

In general, I would advise anyone visiting the Canary Islands to rent a car during their holiday because it is cheap, especially if going to an area as stretched out as Playa Blanca. Otherwise, you will be spending more money on buses and taxis. On top of that, you will only see a small part of what this resort and Lanzarote have to offer.

If you travel with the family and want to visit a waterpark, know that Playa Blanca has two, but they are not very big. Dino Water Park and Aqualava. However, for the price, they offer decent value for money.

These are just a few things to do when staying in the Playa Blanca, but Lanzarote has much more to offer. You can find my complete list of things to do while on holiday in Lanzarote here.

Is Playa Blanca the best holiday destination for you?

Playa Blanca is all about the new and the modern and is one of the most family-friendly resorts on the island. The artificial beaches here are perfect for families with young children even tho they might get quite busy in the high season. However, Playa Blanca is a vast resort in Lanzarote, so it is best to look up your hotel’s location before booking to ensure it is close to the things you want to experience during your holiday.
