Playa de Muro

Beaches

Soft waves on the Playa de Muro beach

Playa de Muro has two very different beaches even tho it is all named as one great beach.  In front of the town, you will find the beach a bit more commercial and generally more crowded.  This part is also better for families as most restaurants and bars are just next to it.  If you move more towards the nature reserve of Albufera, the beach usually gets less busy and is a bit more natural.  This is the better place to do some snorkelling.  Playa de Muro is often named one of the best beaches in Mallorca.

Hotels

I visited a lot of hotels in Playa de Muro over the years and in Mallorca, now over 250 in total.  To make a quick summary of the best hotels in Playa de Muro:

Grupotel Parc Natural & Spa

Whatever hotel you choose in Playa de Muro, make sure to check its location on a map, so you know it is in the right location for you. For example, if you want it quiet, relaxed, and spend most of the time on the beach, you are best near the Albufera nature reserve. On the other hand, if you want to have shops and restaurants nearby, look more towards the “town centre” of Playa de Muro.

Nightlife

There isn’t much of a nightlife in Playa de Muro.  There are a few bars, but everything pretty much closes down around midnight, so don’t expect many clubs or late-night bars.  However, near the beach, you can find some lovely beach clubs to relax and have some cocktails and drinks that stay open a bit longer and play some loungey to party music at the weekends.  Please know that most of these are in the “town” of Playa de Muro, and many of the hotels closer to the Albufera nature reserve are much further away from the little nightlife that Playa de Muro has to offer.

For those who want to go clubbing, a taxi will get you in about 10 minutes to Menta, Bananas and Magic in Puerto Alcudia or Skau in Can Picafort.  In July and August, these are busy on most days, but in other months of the year, you better check the website to find out about special events.  If there aren’t any, then Saturday is usually the busiest day of the week.

Restaurants and bars

Restaurant at night in Playa de Muro

Restaurants you have plenty of in Playa de Muro, from steakhouses to pizza places to Spanish restaurants and even a Burger King if you need your fast food fix.  All of these are in the “town area” of Playa de Muro, and there are fewer restaurants near the nature reserve of Playa de Muro.

If you are not sure if Playa de Muro is right for you, look at my guide on where to stay in Mallorca.

Shopping & markets

There is no shopping in Playa de Muro except for some touristy shops. So, if you need to shop for anything urgently, your best choice is to go to Palma or Puerto Alcudia port that is much closer by.

For just browsing, exploring local products, and buying souvenirs, there is the Old Town of Alcudia market.

How to get to Playa de Muro

Playa de Muro has public transport going to the resort without first going to Palma and transferring there.  The bus costs about 9 euros.  However, for the same price, you can also get a shuttle bus that will drop you of at the hotel instead of a random bus stop, so I would advise the shuttle bus. A taxi is also a good option if you are travelling with a group of 4 people, but this is more pricey.

I would always advise booking the taxi in advance to ensure you have a locked-in price and the shuttle you have to book before arriving at the airport. Please look here for more information, pricing and the companies I use and would advise for taxis and shuttles at the airport in Mallorca.

Things to do near Playa de Muro

Playa de Muro is in the North of Mallorca, so far away from the main attraction in Mallorca, located more around Palma.  The top thing to do I can advise here would be the Rancho Grande. It’s a bit further away, but they will come to pick you up if you book online. It’s a great place to go horse riding a bit in the middle of nowhere, but there are plenty of fun things to do even if you can’t ride.  Like the kiddy zoo, BBQ,  sangria wagon, line dancing and much more.

Also, the boat trip to Formentor beach can be fun, especially for families, but I would not do this in July or August as it gets way too busy on the beach, which takes away most of the charm of this beach.

Here you can find more of the things to see and do in Mallorca I would advise.
