(Puerto de) Alcudia

Beaches

Beach in Alcudia

The beach is a vast sandy beach that is ideal for families. Even with small children as there are few waves, and the water is mostly very shallow.  There is not much to see here if you want to snorkel, but there are many watersports available.

The beach gets nicer the more you get away from the harbour and towards the Playa de Muro beach (named one of the beautiful beaches in Mallorca), where there usually are fewer people, and the water is more clear.

Hotels in Puerto de Alcudia

Alcudia has one of the largest selections of hotels on the island of Mallorca.  Here is my quick selection of hotels after visiting many of the best-reviewed ones.

Restaurants and bars

Puerto de Alcudia has many restaurants spread all over, but they are primarily in 2 areas.  The area near the port has the more upscale and pricey restaurants that are more typically Spanish, while the area on the “greasy mile” has more budget restaurants, Chinese buffets, and typical English food places and bars.

In the town of Alcudia, a short walk or taxi ride away, depending on where you are staying in Puerto Alcudia, you will also find many restaurants on the main town square.  This used to be a place to get real typical Spanish dishes but has become more “touristy” in the last few years. This is either a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it.

Alcudia nightlife

Nightlife bar in Puerto de Alcudia

At night some clubs open near the Bananas roundabout, which is the most popular clubbing area.  The leading clubs here are Bananas, Magic and Menta.  If you want to chill, a charming beach club called Playero Bar serves cocktails to start the night on the beach. You will find many family fun pubs and bars spread out over the entire area of Alcudia.

How to get to Puerto de Alcudia

Since 2018 public transport has been driving to Alcudia without passing the Palma central station, the cost is around 9 euro per person.  If you choose this option, make sure you get off in Puerto Alcudia and not when the bus driver says “Alcudia” in the old town of Alcudia like most people did when I tried out this service (this is over 4 km away from most of the hotels).  To make sure you get off at the correct stop, you can follow the route on Google maps.

However, I would still advise a shuttle instead.  Taxis and shuttles are best booked before online to avoid problems and delays. Have a look here to see if a taxi, shuttle or public bus is the best way for you and see the companies where I would advise booking.

Markets & shopping

Puerto Alcudia has its shops spread out over the port and Pere mas y Reus street.  This last street is more about gadgets and souvenirs, while you will find more upscale clothing stores near the port.

During the summer season, you will find the market in the old town of Alcudia that is hard to get to by bus as they get overloaded with holidaymakers going there, especially in July and August. So your best choice is a taxi or to walk there if you are staying close to the old town of Alcudia.  On the market, you will find local products from Mallorca but of course, also now due to its success with tourists, many vendors selling typical touristy items.

Things to do near Alcudia

There are many things to see in the North of Alcudia, but most parks are more towards Palma (about 50 km away).  One thing I can advise in the North is the Rancho Grande.  This place has been around for many years on Mallorca, and I had some enjoyable times here.  Whether you can ride a horse or not, it does not matter.  There are other things to do like the petting zoo, great food, line dancing, and BBQ for those who can’t ride.  You can book online for the best prices, and they will come to pick you up at the hotel.
