Beaches
Puerto del Carmen has many large beaches, and they never get very busy or overcrowded because of this. The main beach you will find in the centre of the resort with many shops and restaurants next to it. It is located lower than the street, so it is tranquil for a relaxing holiday. Playa Chica is one of the hidden beaches here that many people don’t know about. So if you want to get away from the crowds a bit, this one might be better for you.
Hotels in Puerto del Carmen
- If you are looking for a great adults-only holiday in this area I would advise Lani’s Suites Deluxe if you can afford it because it is not cheap.
- Hotel Las Costas is the best option for a beach holiday.
- If you want the best of both worlds, Matagorda and Puerto del Carmen, then definitely the hotel Seaside Los Jameos Playa is ideal for a family holiday with loads of activities and things to do.
Nightlife
Nightlife is mainly at the beachside of the resort in Puerto del Carmen. Here you will find loads of bars and live performances at night but also in the Biosfera Plaza you will find a lot of funny things to do in the evening. Especially when travelling with kids, this could be an excellent place to go and have a look in the evening. There are also open-air cinemas and late-night mini-disco options. For the adults, there are loads of live performances like bands, comedians and other acts.
Restaurants & bars
Restaurants you find loads of in Puerto del Carmen. Everything you can imagine you can find here, from large steakhouses, fish restaurants to international cuisine and all-you-can-eat places. If you want to get away from the big restaurants and crowds, have a look in the harbour where you find many smaller and more personal restaurants.
Shopping & markets
If you want to go shopping in Lanzarote, then Puerto del Carmen might be the best choice. The Biosfera Plaza Shopping Centre here offers loads of shops, including branded and upscale clothing. Also, there is lots to do here in the evenings like the open-air cinema. You will also find some stores spread out over the rest of the area of Puerto del Carmen. But they are more aimed at selling touristy clothing.
How to get to Puerto del Carmen
Puerto del Carmen, you will find very close to the airport. It is about 8 km distance, a short 10-minute drive away.
- Public transport: 1.4 euro per person
- Shuttle bus: 5 euro per person
- Taxi: 16 euro in the daytime and 18 euro in weekends or evenings

Things to do in and near the Puerto del Carmen
While I would advise most people travelling to Lanzarote or another of the Canary Islands to rent a car because it is so cheap, you can also do plenty of things in Puerto del Carmen. But, by far, the most fun to do for the entire family is the Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park. This is one of the best theme parks on Lanzarote, in my opinion. It has a zoo, shows and a bit of a waterpark as well.
