Beaches
Puerto del Rosario is the busy capital of Fuerteventura, yet it still has 2 very nice beaches to choose from.
Playa Chica
This beach is located right in the city’s centre and is often the most crowded, especially at the weekends as many locals come here. It is a lovely white sandy beach with soft and shallow waves.
Playa Blanca
The Playa Blanca beach is the more natural and authentic beach located just outside of town. This beach can be easily reached using the promenade that starts in the city’s centre and goes all the way to this beach. It is also easy to go here by car as there is plenty of parking next to the beach. While there is a highway close to the beach, you rarely notice it because the road is located much higher than the beach.
Best hotels in Puerto del Rosario
Puerto del Rosario has a few holiday rentals but only one hotel worth mentioning. The hotel El Mirador is located just outside the city, directly next to the Playa Blanca beach. You can find pricing for the Hotel El Mirador and holiday rentals here.
Of all the hotels I have visited in this area, these I can advise:
Things to do in Puerto del Rosario
There is very little tourism in Puerto del Rosario. Because of this, there are no tourist attractions in the city. However, they are all nearby. Because the central bus station is here, it is easy to take public transport to these attractions. Especially in Corralejo, to the North, you have the Acua Water Park, Lobos Island and many day trips by boat you can enjoy.

Restaurants, bars and nightlife
There are quite a few excellent restaurants and bars spread all over the city but mainly near the beach. Most of these are much more budget-friendly compared to other resorts in Fuerteventura, catering mainly to the local population and not directly to tourists. So for authentic tapas, this is a great place to go.
Fuerteventura airport to Puerto del Rosario
Puerto del Rosario is located very close to the airport in Fuerteventura at just 6 km.
- Public transport to Puerto del Rosario is easy when not arriving on Sunday or late in the evening and will only cost 1.40 € per person.
- A shuttle bus will get you there faster but needs to be booked before arriving, costing 7.45 €. It also has a lot of other advantages, like a guaranteed seat on the bus and a drop off at your hotel reception.
- Reserving a taxi online before arriving has a fixed price of 17.75 €. Taking a taxi directly from the airport has a starting price of 11.00 € and will be more expensive at the weekend or evening.
This is the company I used and advise for booking a taxi or shuttle online. For more information about public transport, you can have a look here.
Weather in Puerto del Rosario & when to go
Puerto del Rosario has great weather all year round. Winters are milder but still comfortable holiday weather. Therefor, you can visit Puerto del Rosario all year round and have a great holiday. However, December gets a bit more rain, so it is best avoided if possible. Yet, it is only 3 rainy days a month in December, so very little. The best months to go are June, July, August and September.
