Sa Coma

Beaches

Coastline and sea of Sa Coma

So how is the beach in Sa Coma?  There is one great main beach that is ideal for families with young children with lovely white sands and shops and places to get food and drinks nearby. If you want to explore and be more adventurous, you might want to look in between the Cala Millor and Sa Coma, where there are generally fewer people and a more private setting.  On the other side of the resort, you will also find the S’illot beach. It is not that different from the large main beach, but it has more of a Spanish and more traditional feel with fewer hotels and more local bars and restaurants.

Hotels

Sa Coma has some excellent hotels, and most of these are from Protur and Hipotels. After visiting many of the hotels in this area, I can advise Protur Biomar Gran hotel for a luxurious, relaxed stay and Hipotels Mediteranneo for an adults-only holiday next to the beach.

How to get to Sa Coma

Driving on the bus to Sa Coma

There is a bus from the airport to Sa Coma without needing to transfer in Palma first. But you can also have a shuttle bus, which is a better option for the same price. You are guaranteed a seat on the shuttle, the shuttle will wait for you if your plane is delayed and will drop you off at the hotel reception instead of a random bus stop. However, you have to book the shuttle before online, as there is no option to do this at the airport.

Also, if you are travelling with 4 people, a taxi is a good option. But I would also advise you to book these in advance to avoid long waits, higher than normal prices, and child safety seats.

Nightlife

Sa coma doesn’t have any real late-night clubs or nightlife, but Cala Millor is not far if you are looking for this, and you can easily walk or take a quick taxi here.  In Cala Millor, you will find many clubs and late-night bars and live performances. Sa Coma itself is a more family resort that maintains a tranquil and relaxed feel at night.

Restaurants and bars

Sa Coma has an excellent selection of restaurants, but there are not that many of them, and you might need to look a bit over the resort to find what you are looking for as they are pretty spread out.  Food prices are pretty fair in this area compared to some of the other resorts in Mallorca I have been to. This might be because many restaurants are just in some random place and not directly next to the sea.  If you want some more variety, there are more restaurants in S’illot neighbouring.

Shopping

There isn’t much of a shopping street or shopping centre in Sa Coma. However, if you want to browse a bit, you might want to look in Cala Millor, where there are more stores. Also, there is the local market in Porto Cristo, and in the evenings, they have markets set up throughout the resort of Sa Coma.

Things to do near Sa Coma

There are loads of boat trips offered in Sa Coma for exploring the surrounding area. One of these will also take you to Porto Cristo’s market on Sundays, and here you can visit the Cuevas del Drach, an impressive cave and one of the largest underground lakes in the world. However, if you go on an excursion to Sa Coma, do watch out if it mentions anything about the “pearl factory”. Here is where they sell the famous fake pearls of Mallorca. These are very well-produced faux pearls but still fake, and sales tactics can be quite hard.
