San Agustin in Gran Canaria is an excellent option for those who want the busy nightlife of Playa del Ingles nearby but spend their holiday in a more relaxed setting.
Beaches
How are the beaches in this area? Well, San Agustin has two dark sandy beaches. The beach of San Agustin and the Playa de las Burras. It is also possible to walk over to the beaches in the Playa del Ingles area that have the more white sandy beaches, while in San Agustin, there are more blackish sandy beaches. The beaches in San Agustin often also get less crowded than the beaches in Playa del Ingles.
Hotels
San Agustin has a very random offer of hotels. Most are very close to the beach, but there are also some up the hill in the resort’s back, so keep that in mind when selecting the right one for you. Here are my favourite ones:
- Bull Costa Canaria & Spa is located on the front line to the beach and offers a nice, relaxed adults-only setting but also sports and entertainment.
- Gloria Palace San Agustin is the biggest hotel in this area offering great views and also lots of activities for the entire family. It also has the biggest saltwater spa in Spain to enjoy.
- Melia Tamarindos is a great hotel but during my last visit needed some modernization and updating… what they were doing at the time.
- Sunsuites Carolina is ideal if you want it compact, relaxing, personal and on a budget.
Nightlife
San Agustin has most of the nightlife in the shopping centre area, but most of the nightlife is about having a relaxed and chill evening. There aren’t any nightclubs here. For this, you will have to walk over or take a taxi to the Playa del Ingles where you will find much more parties. However, if you want to enjoy a chilled-out summer evening with some drinks, then San Agustin has much to offer for you.

Restaurants & bars
In the resort, you will find many restaurants all over the area but most of them in the shopping centre area. When I first came here, I had many problems finding good service, food and drinks. Especially next to the beach, many places seem to overcharge and give low-quality products.
So whenever eating somewhere, I would advise you first to read some reviews on Google or another website. There are many great restaurants and bars in San Agustin, but the bad ones in between ruin it.
How to get to San Agustin
San Augustin is 26 km from the Gran Canaria airport (LPA):
- Public transport: 3.50€
- Shuttle bus: 5.50€
- Taxi: 39€
Important things to know about taxis, shuttles
Shopping
San Agustin has a shopping centre, but it is not a big one. However, you will find the basics for your holiday here. If you want to do some more shopping, then visit one of the shopping centres in the neighbouring resort of Playa del Ingles. The Yumbo shopping centre is the biggest one there. If you want to find some upscale branded fashion stores, it is good to visit Meloneras further away.
Things to do in San Agustin
There are many things to do near San Agustin, but one of the things you don’t have to leave San Agustin for is the Thalasso Gloria. The most extensive Thalasso Spa and Wellness centre in Europe. Especially if you have a colder or rainy day, this is a top choice.
