El Arenal and Playa de Palma

Arenal and Playa de Palma are 2 resorts located next to each other. It is hard to say where one ends and the other starts. Even for the local population here, it is not very clear. But in general, El Arenal is the louder, more nightlife and clubbing-focused area and Playa de Palma is a bit more upscale and relaxing. While younger couples like to go clubbing here in the summer, in winter and the low season, older couples visit, especially the Playa de Palma area, for a relaxing holiday.

• Well known for its clubbing and nightlife during the high season.
• While this used to be all about clubbing and crazy nightlife, much of the area has been improved and made more luxurious and upscale, especially Playa de Palma.
• The famous Bierkönig is located here.
• Home to several famous party streets like the Calle de la Cerveza, otherwise known as Beer Street.

Palma Nova and Magaluf

Palma Nova and Magaluf are located next to each other. Magaluf is the louder, more clubbing area, and Palma Nova has fewer clubs but more bars and pubs. These areas are trendy during summer, with younger couples looking for the bustling nightlife. In winter and low seasons especially, Palma Nova is popular for older and retired couples looking for a more relaxing holiday.

€€ – Hotel Florida Magaluf is ideal for younger couples who want to be close to Magaluf beach and the nightlife with an Ibiza-style vibe, DJ sessions and live music.
€€ – Melia Calvià Beach is an excellent adults-only holiday for younger couples who want to be close to the Magaluf beach and the main party area. It is also located next to the famous Nikki Beach and is close to many popular attractions and shows nearby.

Santa Ponsa

Santa Ponsa is also great for couples of all age groups. It offers a bit of everything. Staying in one of the hotels on the cliffside is a unique experience with great views and direct access to the sea, yet it is still just a short walk from the town.

€€ – Iberostar Selection Jardin del Sol Suites is a very similar adults-only in many ways when it comes to a relaxing setting. However, I really liked the quality of the food and the different pools and jacuzzi options.
€€ – H10 Casa Del Mar is best for those couples who want to explore a lot and have the beach, restaurants and lots of nightlife nearby.

Puerto Pollensa

Over the years, Puerto Pollensa has become one of my favourite holiday destinations on the island. It has some authenticity and class in a more romantic and relaxing setting next to the beach. While in summer, you will find a mix of ages here, it is a trendy holiday destination for older and retired couples in winter and low seasons.

• It’s a cosy coastal town with some authentic Spanish vibes.
• Lots of little beaches with a romantic cobblestone promenade next to it.
• In the evening you can dine on the piers between the waves from the sea.
• Lots of coffee, ice cream, cakes and terraces to enjoy.
• Pollensa Old Town and Alcudia Old Town are nearby for culture and exploration.

€ – Apartamentos Torre Playa is a little apartment complex with budget-friendly accommodation for couples who like to be close to the beach, restaurants, bars and nightlife.
€€€ – Hoposa Daina is an adults-only hotel with a unique location and pool. I really liked the pool and pool bar here, surrounded by the sea.

Cala Ratjada

Cala Ratjada is a trendy holiday destination for German speakers but also, lately, more Italians and people from Eastern Europe. It still has quite a bit of authenticity, but there are also many beer gardens and clubs. It is primarily popular for younger couples who like either the beach in the daytime and in the evening to go clubbing.

• Well known for its lively nightlife.
• Lots of beer gardens and outside places to have drinks and enjoy music.
• Live shows and performances in the evening all throughout the resort.
• Several famous discos and clubs, like Physical and Bolero, are open till the early hours.
• 2 white sandy beaches with lots of sunlounger options from basic to luxurious.
• Cala Mesquida and Four the Sa Cala beaches are not too far away for those who like to hike or explore.
• Plenty of restaurants, many with a German focus.
• Many party boats leave from the local harbour, but more relaxed boat tour options exist.

€ – THB Dos Playas is adults-only and can often be booked cheaply for couples travelling on a budget. While you should not expect too much for this price, it offers excellent value for money.

Cala Millor

Cala Millor is a big resort with a fantastic beach. In the evening, there are many restaurants next to the beach, shopping opportunities, and many live shows and performances in bars and on the street. It is ideal for couples who enjoy more relaxed or lively evenings without clubbing. This area is popular with couples of all ages.

€€€ – Iberostar Cala Millor is located more in the quiet dunes area on the edge of Cala Millor. It is excellent for a luxurious and relaxing holiday. I really liked the quality of the food and drinks. So, since you are a bit away from many bars and restaurants, the all-inclusive option is advisable.
€€ – Kyrat Amarac, in between Cala Millor and the quieter Cala Bona, is the ideal hotel for couples who love the beach.

Palma

Palma, the capital of Mallorca, is not to be confused with Playa de Palma as some do. Palma is the city, and it is not a real beach holiday destination, but it is ideal for culture, exploring and city trips. There is a beach, but not the nicest one, because of its location next to a big road. It is one of the more popular places to visit on the islands during the winter for couples city trips. 

• Eating and drinking can be much cheaper depending on where you are staying than some of the more touristy holiday destinations.
• Excellent public transportation connects you to all the resorts and the most popular attractions on the island.
• Lots of culture and history.
• It’s a great place to enjoy the genuinely typical Spanish nightlife.
• Lots of great restaurants for tapas and traditional Spanish food.
• Several large airconditioned shopping centres for when it gets too hot during the middle of the day.
• Easy connection from and to the airport.
• Tourist bus to explore the city.
• The romantic vintage train ride to Soller with an optional tram to Port de Soller leaves from the train station in Palma.
